Mold in my house: the good, the bad, the next steps

Imagine you tell someone: There is mold in my house!  Now what???  First, understand what is mold, how it’s good, and how it’s bad.  According to https://moldblogger.com/good-mold-or-not/ the criteria for mold is:

  1. A fungus that lives on plants and fibers
  2. Reproduces then allergens to irritate the human body
  3. Digests organic material then releases spores

 

MOLD is GOOD FOR:

  1. Medicine- Penicillin
  2. Cheese- blue cheese especially
  3. Wine- improves texture

These are typical products, so mold in my house- no problem, right?

 

 

 

 

 

 

MOLD IS BAD FOR:

  1. Any indoor mold growth is bad
  2. Health issues including but not limited to: coughing, wheezing, upper respiratory infections, skin irritations, throat irritations

CAUSES AND PREVENTIONS:

  1. MOISTURE! Especially leaky faucets, roofs, windows, etc.
  2. Use fans, such as an exhaust fan, to circulate air to dry out areas
  3. Regularly clean high moisture areas such as refrigerators, air conditioners, leaky spots
  4. Plastic cover in crawl spaces to help keep moisture out
