Should I cut my tree down?

Trees are a great source of shade, beauty, homes for animals, and so much more.  When trees show signs of various problems is when people should think “I should cut my tree down!”

Tree trunk is splitting: A trunk is the torso to hold the branches, twigs, and leaves.  When the trunk is weakened, that means the rest of the tree is at risk of breaking apart.  Think “Yes, I should cut my tree down!”

Dead limbs: This is an indicator that part of the tree is not able to provide nourishment.  Dead limbs are at even greater risk of breaking due to decay and becoming more brittle.  Think “Yes, I should cut my tree down!”

Holes in the trunk: Again, the trunk is the torso that holds everything in place that leads to the roots anchored in the ground.  When holes are formed which could be from a woodpecker, squirrels, or perhaps weather damage, that hole is letting in air, water, and other animals that will cause the hole to decay.  This will cause the tree to become weakened, decay, and not as sturdy.  Think “Yes, I should cut my tree down!”

No leaves growing: This is another sign of lack of nourishment.  Although the tree may technically be “living” without any other sign of decay, the tree is losing viability.  Over time the tree branches will become deadened.  Think “Yes, I should cut my tree down!”

Tree is healthy but leaning significantly: This means the torso eventually will not be able to handle the weight of heavy branches without support from another side.  If a strong wind, rain, or lightning strikes, the tree could fall over and cause quite a bit of destruction.  Think “Yes, I should cut my tree down!”

Limbs are growing into power lines, over buildings, over a road: When limbs grow over an area that is concern the limbs could suddenly snap and cause destruction or injuries.  Think “Yes, I should cut my tree down!”

Cutting down trees is a complex task.  When power lines are involved, contact your local utility company for advice.  Sometimes utility companies are required to trim these trees.  If a tree is growing over a building, it’s a great idea to have a professional, licensed, insured tree cutting company handle this.  They tend to have a truck with contraptions to have people be raised to the level of the tree and cut down in smaller sections.  Squirrels and birds may not be happy about loosing their homes.  But there’s plenty of other freebie tree homes for them.  When humans loose their homes due to tree damage is concerning and should be taken seriously.
