In May 2019 I posted that I was planning to get my real estate license.  Fast forward to November 2020, I completed all the coursework, passed all the exams, got onboarded with a brokerage, and I was raring to go as a full time real estate agent.  Then I got sick in February 2021 which resulted in a diagnosis that needed surgery.  My health was first priority.  So there goes that thought of a full time real estate agent!  I was a full time doctor’s appointment attender.  I am very grateful to my primary care provider who advocated for me to see a specialist a few days later.  That specialist advocated for me to get into further testing ASAP which unveiled a secondary finding, but also related to the original issue.  Then I got squeezed in for surgery in early May 2021 with a 6 week recovery.  Now that I’m MUCH better, 100% recovered from surgery, watch out world because I’ve got both feet on the ground to conquer the world as a full time real estate agent!

Many people have asked me about the process of obtaining a real estate license.  Here’s my advice: plan for this to take 2-3 times longer than you think.  My courses were from The CE Shop which was 3-30 hour courses.  BUT!…. with all the information to learn, there was almost no way to keep sanity and stuff my brain with all that knowledge in 30 hours.  Courses 1 and 2 took 50 hours each.  Course 3 took 32 hours.  Then tack on time to study, prepare for the tests, and then take the tests in addition to the hours already devoted to each course.  That’s how long it took me.  I was also working full time when I began the courses.  Then a world wide pandemic happened which completely threw off my work schedule which in return threw off my study schedule.  Oh, and my husband and I moved to a new home during this time.  With all this, I had to take a break from real estate studying after Course 1.  I am very glad I took that break because then Course 2, the exams and Course 3 were much easier to handle.

I am a full time real estate agent with eXp Realty.  I get a couple different responses.

  1. HUH??? eXp?  Never heard of them.  Response: eXp Realty is a world wide brokerage that is virtual based.  Meaning eXp works through software without brick and mortar buildings.  If an agent chooses to work from an office building, that agent may do so.  Other agents, such as myself work from home.  I meet my clients in public settings such as a coffee shop.  My vehicle is my mobile office.
  2. eXp! Really?!?!?  I hear that brokerage is popping up all over the place!  Response: YES!  eXp Realty is growing by leaps and bounds.  eXp was established in 2009 with a handful of agents, but current day August 31, 2021, eXp has over 60,000 agents in 14 countries!
  3. How did you get in with eXp? Response: My husband and I are also part of an elite group of real estate investors with Fortune Builders.  When I passed my real estate exams, I proudly posted on a private social media page with my fellow Fortune Builders community.  Many people reached out to congratulate me and offer their thoughts about particular brokerages.  eXp Realty was one of those brokerages.  After doing my own research, soul searching, interviewing, and praying, I determined eXp Realty was a great fit for me.
  4. How can I learn more about eXp Realty? Response: Contact me so we can chat!  Have a large chunk of time blocked off (1 hour or maybe more) because there’s a lot that eXp Realty has to offer!

Marketing is a key MUST for a successful full time real estate agent.  One tool I use is YouTube.  Check out my channel!  A HUGE shout out to my editor who is so patient with me!  I also have business cards, real estate advertising magnets, a Facebook page devoted strictly to real estate, word of mouth, Fortune Builders contacts, Reel Property Solutions, LLC contacts and eXp Realty contacts.  Starting out as a full time real estate agent has been slow.  Like I said in an earlier paragraph, watch out world because I’ve got both feet on the ground to conquer the world as a full time real estate agent!
